Championship, championship and Cup of Russia in Alpine skiing solemnly opened on Sakhalin

The official opening ceremony of the championship, championship and Cup of Russia in Alpine skiing was held in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk. This was reported in the press service of the Ministry of Sports of the Sakhalin Region.

The competitions, which have been taking place on the slopes of STK “Mountain Air” since March 3, brought together more than 100 athletes representing Altai, Krasnoyarsk, Primorsky, Kamchatka, Krasnodar Territories, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Leningrad, Moscow, Magadan, Chelyabinsk, Murmansk, Kaluga, Kemerovo, Sakhalin regions, as well as St. Petersburg and Moscow.

Vladimir Yushchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Sakhalin Region, addressed the participants and guests of the event with a welcoming speech.

“The Sakhalin slopes have already become home to all-Russian competitions – these starts have traditionally been held at the Mountain Air since 2014. You already have three days of competition behind you, and the same number is still ahead. I hope you were satisfied with the preparation of the island trails. I wish everyone good luck, competition and beautiful victories!” — admonished the Deputy Prime Minister.

At the opening ceremony, the results of the first competitive days were summed up and the athletes were awarded – winners and prize-winners in the discipline “parallel slalom. Sakhalin residents won two bronze medals – Dmitry Pyshkin and Sofya Krokhina climbed to the third step of the podium.

“In general, I am satisfied with my races. The only thing was that I couldn’t keep my concentration and gain speed throughout the entire route. There were moments where I gave up a little. Despite the fact that spring has begun and it is already warm, the slopes of the Mountain Air are well prepared and allow showing good results, ”Sofya shared the details.

Gold medals in parallel slalom were won by Ivan Kuznetsov and Yulia Pleshkova from Kamchatka. Silver medals were won by Nikita Alekhin representing the Kamchatka Territory and Ekaterina Tkachenko from Moscow.

“It is very pleasant to see such a number of amateurs, including children, who go skiing, follow our competitions, how all-Russian starts are held here every year. All this suggests that skiing remains number 1 on Sakhalin,” said Leonid Melnikov, President of the Russian Alpine Skiing Federation.

In addition to the solemn awarding ceremony, the guests of the event on this day were expected to draw gifts, fire shows and musical numbers.

The championship, the championship and the Cup will last until March 7. Athletes will compete in giant slalom. The final of the Cup of Russia in the discipline “slalom”, as well as the closing ceremony of the competition will be held on March 8.
