The Amur Tiger Center will find a specially designed tiger for former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl. Earlier, the politician expressed a desire to take custody of the predator, providing material assistance to the animal.
“Here the question is that a person can have complicity – we can give the opportunity to name a tiger, she will know that there is a tiger with the name she named him. Accordingly, we will offer options for assistance,” the center for supporting the Red Book species said.
On the first day of the EEF-2022, the II International Tiger Forum opened. As part of the discussion on the conservation of the tiger population, an agreement was signed on the reintroduction of the tiger into the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The first generation of the population will consist, among other things, of coastal inhabitants. It is assumed that the reintroduction of the first cats will take place in 2024-2025.
Currently, animals that are historically lived in Central Asia and Transcaucasia are considered extinct. The population was called Turanian tigers. Modern genetic studies show a close relationship between the Amur and Central Asian subspecies of this big cat.
