Mevlut Cavusoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister, commented on the proposal of UN Secretary General António Guterres regarding the mediation of Turkish banks in solving the problem of Russian agricultural products entering the world markets. He noted that for this, Turkish banks should receive appropriate guarantees.
According to Cavusoglu, Russia cannot sell its products to Western countries because of the restrictions that are imposed on its export. Despite the fact that grain and fertilizers are not included in the sanctions list, there is no access of ships to ports, and insurance companies create obstacles. In addition, Russian banks have been disconnected from SWIFT. Russia also requires the UN to connect Rosselkhozbank to SWIFT. Therefore, the UN Secretary General offered Turkish banks mediation in this process.
Cavusoglu stressed that Turkish banks should receive guarantees that there will be no sanctions or obstacles in the mediation process. He also noted that the Banking Union and the UN are currently working on this issue. The Turkish Foreign Minister also said that he had discussed this issue with colleagues from the United States and Great Britain.
