In Russia, Rospotrebnadzor has recorded cases of pneumonia caused by the atypical bacterium Mycoplasma pneumoniae. Ill children and adolescents were identified in Karelia, Udmurtia, Bashkiria and Dagestan. The Ministry of Health emphasizes that the situation is under control.
According to Kommersant, outbreaks of mycoplasma infection have also been reported in China, the USA, Denmark, France and the Netherlands. Doctors advise remaining calm, noting the return of airborne infections, including mycoplasma, in the post-pandemic period. Characteristic symptoms of this pneumonia are fever, weakness and persistent cough.
Thus, the press service of the Ministry of Health of Udmurtia emphasized that over ten months, 11 cases of mycoplasma infection were registered in the republic, mainly in adolescents. The departments of Rospotrebnadzor in Dagestan and Bashkiria say that isolated cases have been detected, while no severe cases have been recorded in patients.
Previously, similar diseases were identified in the USA, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Italy and Germany. China sounded the alarm in November when hospitals in Beijing and Liaoning filled with sick children. WHO asked Chinese authorities for detailed information and then confirmed that it does not see pandemic potential in this outbreak. The organization emphasized that mycoplasma pneumonia is a seasonal disease characteristic of the winter period.
