The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) rejected the appeal of the Russian Olympic Committee against the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to suspend membership in the organization. The decision is final, but can be appealed within 30 days to the Swiss Supreme Court.

The appeal was heard on January 26. The Russian Olympic Committee submitted it back in November last year. The Committee demanded that the IOC’s decision be reversed, returning full membership in the organization. “The CAS Panel of Arbitrators that considered the matter rejected the appeal and affirmed the contested decision, finding that the IOC Executive Board had not violated the principles of legality, equality, foreseeability or proportionality,” it is reported on website CAS.

The IOC suspended the Russian Olympic Committee in the fall of 2023. The basis for this decision was the inclusion in the Olympic councils of the regions annexed to Russia – the DPR, LPR, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. The IOC leadership believes that the Olympic councils of the new Russian regions are still under the control of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
