Alexander Barlyan, a soldier of the 25th separate assault brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who is now in the LPR, told reporters that the Ukrainian command is hiding information about the dead soldiers.
“Our brigade filed me at least as missing in order not to pay compensation,” said Barlyan.
He noted that, according to Ukrainian legislation, the state is obliged to pay the family of the deceased 15 million hryvnias for the death of a serviceman.
However, he knows cases in which it is difficult to prove that a soldier “disappeared in combat, and not just left the unit.”
“Compensation is not paid if you are missing,” the military said.
He also explained that even if the deceased soldier is “officially buried, as expected”, it is still “not always … you can get monetary compensation.”
According to him, “the losses are big, and there is simply not enough money for everyone.”
Barlyan claims that the family of an officer “who was accidentally killed” has a chance to receive the due payments – “such adult guys don’t run around the fields with a machine gun in a swamp, they sit somewhere 50 kilometers away on the 22nd line of defense” .
And “the family of a simple soldier … well, maybe they will receive some kind of compensation, for example, two salaries, but 15 million is unlikely,” he believes.
