The authorities of Burkina Faso denounced the agreement on military-technical assistance concluded with France in April 1961. Ouagadougou demands the final withdrawal of all French military personnel serving in the country’s military administrations within a month.
In January 2023, the government of Burkina Faso terminated the 2018 agreement with France on the presence of European military personnel in the country.
Against this background, French President Emmanuel Macron has planned working trips to African countries to strengthen bilateral ties. From 1 to 5 March, he will visit Gabon, DR Congo, the Republic of the Congo and Angola.
