The return of the Project 971 nuclear submarine Leopard to the Northern Fleet (SF) after repairs and modernization is planned for December this year. Vladimir Maltsev, head of the All-Russian Fleet Support Movement, spoke about this.
“After the completion of a deep modernization and factory testing, the transfer of the Leopard to the fleet is planned for December 2023,” Maltsev emphasized.
Initially, the Leopard was planned to be transferred to the fleet in the second half of 2021.
K-328 “Leopard” is a Soviet and Russian multi-purpose nuclear submarine of project 971 “Pike-B”, serial number 832. The ship has improved stealth compared to previous ships of the series and is classified as “Improved Akula” in the west.
K-328 was laid down at Sevmash on October 26, 1988. January 24, 1991 received the name “Leopard”, May 21 of the same year – inherited the Red Banner Flag K-181 project 627A – the first Soviet submarine that surfaced at the North Pole. June 28, 1992 – withdrawal from the workshop, September 1, 1992 – the physical start-up of the reactor, December 30 of the same year was put into operation, January 15, 1993 – the Naval flag was raised, the day was approved as the date of the ship’s annual holiday. January 29 became part of the 24th “animal” division of submarines of the Northern Fleet.
