Bulgarian hotels refused to feed Ukrainian refugees

According to publications The Sofia Globe, some hotels in Bulgaria stopped providing meals to Ukrainian refugees due to lack of funds. Some hotels continue to do this on a voluntary basis. At the same time, the country’s version of the accommodation scheme for Ukrainian refugees does not provide for the provision of food.
The material notes that on Monday, November 21, the Operational Headquarters of the National Council for Migration, Borders, Asylum and Integration will meet, which will develop guidelines for the implementation of a humanitarian program for Ukrainian refugees.
Earlier, the government extended the scheme for accommodating Ukrainians in hotels until February 2023. But only for those who already live there. New arrivals will be sent to government institutions. And meals are not included in this program.
Ruska Mincheva, the owner of a hotel in Ravda, said that she felt sorry for the children and was uncomfortable leaving them without food, so at lunchtime all Ukrainian refugees living in the hotel are given soup.
But a hotel in the south of the Black Sea stopped feeding Ukrainian refugees, because the state allocates only 15 leva per person per day and this does not cover the costs.
At the same time, Bulgarian public organizations say that several hundred of the most vulnerable Ukrainian refugees – mainly mothers with children, pensioners and people with disabilities housed in state institutions – were left without food after November 15.
In total, 10,175 Ukrainians live in Bulgaria under the state scheme.
