Brother Yeltsin: “Boris was only concerned about the lust for power”

– He was an ordinary man, – without hiding his emotions, he talks about Yeltsin. – Boris was only concerned with the lust for power. He was loyal to the Soviet Union, what a communist he was! And then, in his mature years, he dropped everything and changed one hundred and eighty degrees!

“Before that, he called on everyone to join the party,” continues Stanislav Fedorovich. – And me too. When he went up the career ladder, I was in his regional committee. So at first they didn’t want to let me in there, because I’m not a member of the party. I had to ask the guards to call Boris and let them know that I had arrived. Boris received me, shook my hand, and the first question he asked was: “Why aren’t you in the party yet?”

– And what did you answer?

“And I didn’t answer him. I was not the same then as I am now. Now, of course, I would answer him. And then he said nothing.

In my youth, there were no trusting relationships between relatives. The age difference affected – Boris Nikolaevich was more than 11 years older than Glebov.

“Of course, all our relatives were impressed by Boris,” continues Stanislav Fedorovich. – His mother told everyone what a maximalist he was. She loved Boris, as all mothers adore their children. Nikolai Ignatievich, Boris’s father, was also proud of his son. By the way, Yeltsin’s father is still remembered here. He was a hard-working person, he worked as a foreman – he built several objects. Including the school. They lived well. But you must understand that in Soviet times there were no wealthy people. Therefore, the Yeltsins did not show off either. But they had their own farm: they kept a cow. When Boris became president, he moved his mother to Moscow. She missed her native land, often came here, talked about her life in Moscow. She did not really like it there, many things did not suit her.

Stanislav Fedorovich also lived most of his life in Butka. The president’s relative will soon turn 82, but Stanislav Fedorovich does not relax.

“I still physically work as much as I can. Until I drop sometimes, – Yeltsin’s brother shares. “I barely made it to bed today. Made the gate. My son has a farm, I helped him. I never ran away from work. But Boris is different. He once was at the mowing – with his father Nikolai Ignatievich and my brother, they mowed the grass. Boris, of course, has undergone a metamorphosis. His position required respect for physical labor. And he didn’t do it himself. When does he have to work? He has no time! Here to engage in drinking – yes! Here he found time.

“When Boris was president, so many journalists from all over the world came to see me,” continues Stanislav Fedorovich. Everyone wanted to interview me. There were correspondents from Europe, and from Asia, and from America. I kept telling them what they really are, without embellishment. Local residents called me after the interview was released on the phone and scolded me: “Don’t touch Boris!” They even threatened! Not in plain text, of course, that, they say, we will deal with and kill. And hints. And I spoke as it is and was never afraid of anyone. And I turned out to be right!

How Boris Nikolayevich himself reacted to criticism, Stanislav Fedorovich does not know. After Yeltsin became president, they did not communicate.

– Ever since I gave my first interview, I had no connection with Boris, – says Stanislav Fedorovich. – I had dreams that I was at Boris Nikolayevich’s house, in the circle of his family. And, you know, I somehow felt so bad at that moment. I felt guilty for talking about my brother like that. I felt in a dream that I was even ashamed of the fact that I criticized him so much. But when I woke up, I thought about it and came to the conclusion that I was doing everything right. I have to evaluate what is and how it is. I serve the truth.

By the way, Glebov admits that at first he was also pleased with his brother’s career success. When Yeltsin first ran for president, he voted for him.

“My wife and I voted for Boris together,” Stanislav Fedorovich shares. – And the second time I did not give him my vote. I remember that foreign journalists came to me again and went with me to the polling station. There they asked me: “Stanislav Fedorovich, who will you vote for?” I answered honestly: “For Zyuganov!” By the way, in Yeltsin’s native village of Basmanovo, all the people also wanted to vote against him a second time. They beat themselves in the chest: “We will not support Boris!” But everything turned out differently. The head of the district administration came to the polls, sat next to the ballot box, and all those who said they would not vote for Yeltsin ended up casting their votes for him. This is what our civil society was like.

This year marks the 16th anniversary of Yeltsin’s death. The ex-president of Russia found his last refuge on the central alley of the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow. Stanislav Fedorovich admits: he has never been to the grave of his famous brother for all this time.

“I would love to go, but my pension is not enough to get to Moscow,” says a relative of the politician. I don’t even have 25 thousand. 22 thousand I receive every month. But for the life of this amount, however, it is quite enough. Of course, we do not show off, we do not eat delicacies. And my son feeds me. So I’m not complaining. Although I would like to go to Moscow. I would very much like to meet Tatyana, with Valentina – we were very friends with her at one time. But I don’t know how to do it. When I come to the Yeltsin Center, I always ask about them, ask for a meeting. But the staff just shrug their shoulders.

Stanislav Fedorovich does not complain about his life. He lives in his house with his wife.

I got married quite late, at the age of 38. And my wife and I live together to this day, says Yeltsin’s brother. “I have always been faithful to my wife. We have been together for 44 years. I consult with her and share my thoughts. But the villagers hate me now. If I see someone, they don’t even greet me. Because we have different political views.

Yeltsin’s brother is actively following the events taking place in the world. He is especially interested in the conflict in Ukraine. Many scold Yeltsin for this. Like, it was he who was to blame for the fact that the fraternal peoples began to exist separately. But Glebov is sure that the Ukrainian confrontation is not the work of Yeltsin.

“Everything that is happening now is not the fruit of Boris’s activity,” Stanislav Fedorovich is sure. He certainly didn’t expect this to happen. Boris thought that the Soviet republics would live together. But he was wrong. He’s been wrong all his life!

— Stanislav Fedorovich, what is your dream today? – we are interested in brother Yeltsin in the end.

– As a Russian person, I now have one dream – to go to heaven. I am an Orthodox person, though not a religious one. But all my life I live according to religious precepts. I especially like: “Do not make yourself an idol!” I have never respected the power-hungry. And who was the power lover? All kings! Stalin! Boris! And power – it spoils a person, breaks him and distorts the human essence. And Boris, having come to power, has changed. He, I repeat, was not a democrat at all. It was just an irony of fate that Boris Nikolaevich became a democrat.
