British gang sentenced to 30 years in prison for illegally broadcasting Premier League matches
Five Britons involved in three pirated streaming services that provided illegal access to broadcasts of football matches of the championship of England were sentenced to a total of 30 years and 7 months in prison. This is stated in the publication on the official website of the English Premier League (EPL).
It is noted that all the accused, except for one, pleaded guilty on all counts. The only one who disagreed with the accusation was 33-year-old William Brown, who claimed during the investigation that he was an undercover informant for law enforcement and broadcasting companies.
The investigation found that the attackers earned over $8 million through their fraudulent activities, and more than 50,000 customers and resellers, as well as 30 employees, were involved in their illegal business. It is clarified that one of the accomplices of the scammers worked undercover in a specialized anti-piracy company.
During the investigation, it was found that pirate organizations provided illegal access to watching Premier League matches, hundreds of channels from around the world, as well as tens of thousands of films and TV shows.
