Bridge, new season: tourists cried, but continued to go to Crimea

At the time of the emergency on the Crimean bridge on Saturday morning, October 8, on the peninsula, according to the estimates of the domestic tourism industry, there were about 50 thousand guests from all over the country. Some of them were supposed to go home on that day, others were only heading to their resting place, and the damaged bridge was the main and, in fact, the only transport artery to the peninsula, not counting the ferry crossing.

We asked about the plans and mood of those whose long-awaited vacation by the sea was overshadowed by the terrorist attack.

– I have always said that our people are amazing! – shares the hostess of the guesthouse near Sudak. – My guests were blabbering on Saturday that the toilet paper was too thin for them, the blanket was too thick, the view from the window was not what they promised … But as soon as they heard about the bridge, the first thing they ran to me was that they knew what I had that day husband and son are returning from Taman by car. And they didn’t leave, they calmed them until my people informed me that everything was fine with them, they returned back to Taman and would stay there for the time being.

– And what are they planning?

– They came by car from Saratov – husband, wife and preschool children. They wanted to go home just on Monday, but now they decided to stay longer, it seems that work allows you to extend your vacation.

Meanwhile, large hoteliers, as well as Crimean boarding houses and health resorts, Rostourism officially recommended to extend their stay for a day free of charge to guests whose departure home was disrupted due to a partial collapse of the bridge. And a day later, its head thanked the Crimeans on social networks for the fact that “the entire business of the region reacted with understanding to the situation.” And the tour operators were quick to add that as of Monday, the arrival of new tourists on the peninsula and the departure of those who have already rested occur in the usual manner, of course, there were refusals from already purchased tickets to the Crimean Riviera, but not so much. And after the state of emergency, the Russians suddenly began to request rest in the Crimea even more actively.

“Personally, I returned to Moscow,” says a 79-year-old pensioner from the capital, who found herself on a fateful Saturday morning in the passenger train closest to the site of the explosion. – But only because my daughter cried a lot in Moscow, and I did not because I was scared. Everything was clear and organized – the train turned back to Anapa. Those wishing to continue their vacation were settled there in sanatoriums.

Those who saw the situation on the bridge with their own eyes share that trains really calmly pass in both directions. But with cars, the problem is congestion.

– There, the traffic jam starts right from Starotiarovskaya (village – ed.), the closer to the bridge, the more cordons, so you can’t see what’s next, – say tourists who are vacationing in Temryuk, and who specially drove up to the bridge from their side to take a look at the situation. Passenger cars are allowed through, but only after a close inspection. And the heavy trucks are turning to the ferry crossing. But when we drove up, the ferries were not yet allowed. The surrounding motels were given to the drivers for waiting, they are noisy there, like in a pioneer camp. Passenger boats are already running.

According to official reports from the Crimean authorities, traffic on the damaged bridge has been restored along two lanes in both directions, but only cars are allowed through, while trucks and buses go through the ferry crossing. The railway communication is fully operational. For those who are just planning a trip to the peninsula, it is reported that there are no transport restrictions for this. Due to the thorough inspection of transport, the waiting time at the entrance to the bridge for autotourists today is a couple of hours, but will gradually decrease. In the meantime, mobile buffets with hot food have been deployed for those who are waiting. Meanwhile, in thematic chats, autotourists warn each other that they will have to stand at the bridge from 3 to 6 hours, and not only those who are already in Crimea and want to return home are discussing a trip across the bridge, but also those who are just going to to Crimea.

“We cried, but we arrived while we were standing,” report tourists with two small children who have safely reached the bridge from the Moscow region and are now waiting for inspection in their car.

– Didn’t the attack scare you? – I’m interested in the brave holidaymakers.

– Oh, we have been waiting for a trip to the sea for so long that we would have gone anyway. We don’t have money for Turkey and Egypt, but it’s not right to sit at home on vacation, especially if they are released only in October.

– What if something happens again, after all, the war zone is not far away, and you and your children!

– Well, it’s unlikely to go to the bridge again, it’s just some kind of thriller, a new season. No, the projectile does not fall into the same funnel twice. In general, Crimea is big. And we’re going to a very quiet place.
