Brazilian court suspends Telegram

The Telegram messenger did not provide the Brazilian Federal Police with data on neo-Nazi groups on the platform, in connection with this, the court decided to suspend the application in the country. About it informs portal G1.
The court ordered operators and app stores to remove Telegram. A corresponding letter will be sent on April 26 to Vivo, Claro, Tim and Oi operators, as well as Google and Apple corporations that own the Google Play and App Store app stores, police said.
In addition, the court increased the amount of the fine imposed on Telegram from 100,000 to 1 million reais (from about 1.6 million rubles to about 1.6 billion rubles) per day for refusing to transfer the necessary information.
Earlier, the Brazilian Federal Police demanded that the Telegram administration provide the data of participants and administrators of channels with neo-Nazi content, writes G1. On April 21, the company handed over part of the data to the department, but refused to disclose the phone numbers of platform users.
The portal notes that the police sent a request to Telegram after an armed attack on schools in Aracruz, which occurred in November 2022. Four people died as a result of the incident. The investigation concluded that the 16-year-old shooter was connected to Telegram groups that distributed extremist materials.
