In Brazil, a court order has been issued to block the Telegram messenger in the country. According to local media on Wednesday, April 26, law enforcement agencies filed a corresponding petition.
The Brazilian police asked to block Telegram due to the failure to provide information and the refusal of the administration of the messenger to cooperate with the investigation.
The court granted the petition and ordered telecom operators to block Telegram, and also imposed a fine of 1 million reais (about 200 thousand US dollars) on the administration of the messenger.
In April 2018, Roskomnadzor began the process of blocking Telegram in Russia due to the refusal of the administration of the messenger to comply with a number of requirements of Russian law, in particular, to transfer, at the request of the authorities, keys to decrypt user correspondence. In 2020, the restrictions were lifted as Telegram improved methods for identifying and removing prohibited information.
The head of the Ministry of Digital Development Maksut Shadayev said that according to the results of 2022, the traffic of the Telegram messenger in Russia tripled.
