Borrell urged to prepare for the entry of ten new countries into the European Union

The European Union (EU) needs to prepare for enlargement and the possible entry of ten new members, informed EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell.
“A candidate state can become a member of the EU if all the conditions are met, but at the same time, a political goal and horizon must be set to give impetus to the process and give us momentum to prepare for enlargement and the possible entry of ten new members,” Borrell explained.
According to him, Ukraine will need special assistance in preparing for EU accession.
On August 29, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, said that the EU must be ready to welcome new member states to the organization by 2030, and the EU’s next long-term budget must take this into account. Albania, Moldova, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine and Montenegro have the official status of candidates for EU accession.
