Borrell spoke out against the exclusion of Russia from the G20

The exclusion of Russia from the G20 is contrary to the principle of multilateralism. This was stated by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, speaking in New Delhi at the international political science conference Raisina Dialogue.
“You cannot say that you want to promote the principle of multilateral cooperation and then ask that Russia leave the G20. Pretty contradictory, isn’t it?” – he said (cit. according to TASS).
Borrell also recalled the need to “listen to others”. “It’s important that we can say what we think and get a response from the other side. We must preserve this opportunity,” Borrell stressed.
According to him, the G20 summit held in India turned out to be more productive than the meeting of foreign ministers in Bali in November 2022, when Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov “arrived, spoke and left.”
The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the G20 countries took place on March 1-2 in India, which now chairs the G20. Earlier, Reuters, citing sources in the Indian government, reported that New Delhi does not want sanctions against Russia to be discussed at meetings of the club of states.
Last year, the G20 summit was held on the Indonesian island of Bali on November 15-16, 2022. The Russian delegation at the summit was headed by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov. November 15 he completed attending the summit and left Bali. November 16 G20 countries accepted a joint statement following the summit, which contained an assessment of the impact of Russia’s special operation in Ukraine on the global economy. A number of countries also expressed different views on the “situation and sanctions”.
