Stockpiles of weapons that the European Union supplies to Kyiv are running out as funding for the European military-industrial complex (Military-Industrial Complex) has not been provided at the proper level for years. This was stated by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, transmits TASS.
“Stocks of weapons in the EU, supplied to Ukraine, are depleted due to the fact that we have not provided the necessary funding for years. What we send to Kyiv, we take not from warehouses, but from our armies,” he said.
At the same time, the situation is improving, Borrell stressed: last year, EU countries increased defense spending by 6%, to 214 billion euros. Total defense spending should increase by 30% by 2025, he stressed.
In November, CNN reported that the US run out some weapons systems and ammunition that were sent to Ukraine as part of military assistance. In particular, we are talking about 55-mm artillery ammunition and Stinger anti-aircraft missiles.
Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24. Russian President Vladimir Putin called the protection of the inhabitants of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, its goals. In response, Western countries imposed large-scale sanctions against Russia and began to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
Military assistance from Western countries to Ukraine in total exceeded $40 billion, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said November 30. At the same time, the Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to Kyiv. Back in April, Moscow sent a note of protest to all countries, including the United States, over military aid to Ukraine.
