US Marines want to be left without phones because of the conflict in Ukraine

A key goal of the U.S. Marine Corps modification targeting potential conflict with high-tech adversaries is to make the force less traceable, including by limiting the use of personal mobile phones by soldiers. And this is not an easy task, said the senior officer of the Marine Corps.
Marine Corps Commander General David Berger pointed out that the conflict in Ukraine has highlighted the need for Marines to limit the electronic footprint that personal devices leave. He noted that it is especially difficult for young military personnel.
“Every time you press a button, you radiate,” Berger said.
“This is bad, you will be killed, so turn off your mobile phone,” the experienced military man turned to the young fighters.
The use of personal electronic devices is on the rise among the new generation, with 46% of American teenagers saying they are online almost constantly in a 2022 Pew Research study, about double the rate in 2014-2015. And 95% percent of teens reported having access to a smartphone.
