Borjomi forest on fire in Georgia

For the fifth day, the Georgian authorities fail to put out a large-scale fire in the Borjomi Gorge near the town of Borjomi, one of the main tourist centers of Georgia, where mineral water is produced.
Today, August 24, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country reported that the fire covered an area of 150 hectares. The cause of the fire was the irresponsibility of a local resident who did not completely extinguish the fire in the forest.
Since Sunday, August 21, 1.2 thousand servicemen of the Georgian Defense Forces and 4 Georgian helicopters have been involved in extinguishing the fire, and today, August 24, it became known that 3 Turkish specialized aircraft have joined the fight against the elements. They pour large masses of water on the fires and try to localize the fire – to prevent the fire from approaching Borjomi and other settlements.
Fighting the fire is complicated by wind and high temperatures. Fire brigades use bulldozers to get closer to the fire epicenters.
The authorities did not announce the evacuation of the population of the gorge.
