Boris Akunin* put on the wanted list

Writer Boris Akunin* (real name Grigory Chkhartishvili* – recognized in Russia as a foreign agent) is wanted. This follows from the database of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation as of Friday, January 26.
The basis for putting a writer on the wanted list is an article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the department does not specify under what specific article Akunin is being sought*.
Earlier, Deputy Chairman of the Scientific Council of VTsIOM Joseph Diskin called on give away books by Boris Akunin for free*, explaining this by the fact that his political views and creativity vary significantly. Diskin called the writer an extraordinary figure in Russian culture.
Back at the end of December 2023, the Zakharov publishing house, which exclusively published Akunin’s books*, said goodbye to readers. Many took this as confirmation of the publishing house’s intention to cease its activities, but it turned out that this was not the case.
