Bolivia handed over a note on the desire to join the BRICS to all members of the organization. This was told by the Ambassador of Bolivia to the Russian Federation Maria Luisa Ramos Ursagaste.

BRICS was founded in June 2006 as part of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. Initially, the association included Brazil, Russia, India and China. In 2020, South Africa joined it. In March, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the desire of 16 countries to join the BRICS.
From 22 to 24 August, South Africa will host the 15th summit of the group. According to the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov, the event will be discussed including the issue of expanding the group. Reuters reported that Brazil is the main opponent of the expansion of the BRICS. At the end of July, Bloomberg also wrote that India and Brazil opposed China’s proposal to expand the BRICS at the expense of Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
