The informal summit of the European Political Community, held in Granada, Spain this week, was marred by a scandal involving French President Emmanuel Macron and Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni, writes Bloomberg.
The two European leaders have reportedly agreed to hold a working meeting on migration issues with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. “Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez felt this was a distraction from the formal talks already taking place under his leadership and, in a huff, canceled a joint press conference with Sunak on Thursday,” it said.
The material says that the migration situation in the EU worries too many, while heads of state try to avoid such topics, as they see it as a threat to their political careers.
The summit in Granada took place on October 5-6, and discussed, among other things, the issue of European Union enlargement and its consequences, but it was not possible to reach agreement on this issue. Also, EU leaders were unable to agree on a common position on migration for a declaration following the summit.
