BioNTech Founders Announce Cancer Vaccine By 2030

Ugur Sahin and Ozlem Tureci, co-founders of the German firm BioNTech, reportedthat the mRNA technology behind their Covid vaccine could be reprogrammed to cause the immune system to attack cancer cells.
Prof. Shaheen said drugs with similar effects could be available before 2030.
The mRNA vaccine passes on the genetic markers to harmless coronavirus spike proteins, which are then taken over by cells that produce the spike protein. The antibodies of the immune system react to these marks and attack them.
The same approach can be used to force the immune system to seek out and destroy cancer cells. Only instead of the code for viruses it is necessary to enter markers for cancer antigens. These are proteins that dot the surface of tumor cells.
BioNTech began work on mRNA-based cancer vaccines before the pandemic hit. But due to the threat of coronavirus, she switched to the production of vaccines against it.
Tureji said that the company already has several vaccines that are currently undergoing clinical trials.
