US company Colossal Biosciences has launched a project to resurrect the dodo bird. This news the company itself said.

Scientists at Colossal Biosciences plan to find a close relative of the dodo so that they can use DNA editing techniques to breed offspring in the form of an extinct bird. According to the source, Nicobar pigeons have become the closest relative of the dodo.

Recall that the birds dodo lived on the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, but more than 360 years ago they were exterminated by humans. Dodo weight reached 20 kilograms, these birds could not fly. It is because of this that birds have become easy prey for humans. Scientists also note that dodo birds were not afraid of people – this also contributed to the extermination of the species.

The researchers are confident that the revived bird will symbolize a rethought attitude of man to nature, where every living being is valuable. Note that Colossal Biosciences is already successfully engaged in projects to resurrect the mammoth and the Tasmanian tiger.
