US President Joe Biden met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the G20 summit. The parties, among other things, discussed the issue of the murder of the leader of the Sikh community of Canada Hardeep Singh Nijjar, ft.com reports, citing its sources.
Modi, according to the publication, had previously discussed the situation surrounding Nijjar’s murder with representatives of the Five Eyes intelligence alliance (Australia, Great Britain, Canada, New Zealand and the United States), but Biden decided to raise this topic during the meeting and discuss it directly.
Canadian authorities suggested that Canadian intelligence services might be involved in the murder, and on this basis they expelled a senior Indian diplomat from the country. In response, the Indian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday summoned the Canadian ambassador and informed him of a similar decision by New Delhi, and the Indian Embassy in Ottawa suspended the issuance of Indian visas.
