White House President Joe Biden apologized to a number of Muslim leaders in the United States for publicly questioning the number of Palestinian deaths reported by the Hamas-controlled Gaza Ministry of Health. The Washington Post (WP) writes about this, citing two knowledgeable persons.
According to them, the day after the statements, the American leader had a conversation with five heads of the Muslim community in the United States, who “protested against his insensitive attitude towards dying civilians.” It is noted that they told Biden about friends who were affected by the situation in Gaza, in particular about a woman who lost 100 relatives.
According to sources, the US President apologized for what he said and said that he was “disappointed in himself.” One of the White House employees noted that the meeting of the head of state, planned for half an hour, lasted more than an hour and ended with Biden hugging one of the interlocutors.
On October 26, the American leader said that he did not trust Palestinian information about the number of deaths in the enclave during IDF bombing. At the same time, he acknowledged that innocent people in the region are suffering and paying the price for what is happening.
