Belgorod schools will install modular structures to protect against shelling

Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov at an operational meeting in the regional government instructed install modular protective structures on school grounds where in-person learning is permitted.

“I see that parents remain on the street before school, some in the car, some not. We have no shelters,” stated the head of the region. He instructed to purchase modular structures using the reserve fund. According to the governor, they should be manufactured and installed within three weeks. The structures will not appear in kindergartens. “Parents go to groups and dress and pick up the child. By definition, there should be no large gatherings of parents in front of kindergartens,” explained Mr. Gladkov.

Strengthening educational institutions in the Belgorod region began at the beginning of the current academic year. Then, as a result of increased shelling from Ukraine, windows in schools were covered with protective film, and window openings were lined with sandbags. After the most powerful attacks on Belgorod at the end of the year, modular structures installed at public transport stops.

At today’s operational meeting, Vyacheslav Gladkov criticized the installation of protective structures in the border town of Grayvoron. “Ten modules were purchased using regional money, but they were delivered extremely poorly. They stand on the territory of institutions that are not working. I do not understand why? I didn’t see a single module near the stops,” the governor explained. He added that at the next operational meeting the issue of installing protective structures by commercial enterprises at their own expense will be discussed.
