Belgium head coach announces resignation

Football coach Roberto Martinez has announced that he is retiring after the Belgian national team under his leadership failed to qualify from the group at the World Cup in Qatar.
In the last match of group F, the Belgian team played draw (0:0) with the Croatian national team and took 3rd place in the group. At the end of the match, Belgian striker Romelu Lukaku missed four empty nets.
“That was my last match with the team. Emotional moment. I can’t go on. I said goodbye to the players and staff. I was going to leave anyway, even if we became world champions. I made a decision before the 2022 World Cup,” said Mr Martinez (quoted from HLN)
The Spanish specialist has coached the Belgian national team since 2016. At the World Championships in 2018, the Belgians under his leadership became bronze medalists.
