On August 24, Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, personally visited the site of the demolition of a historical monument – the house of E. P. Saltykova in St. Petersburg. The Manege of the Life Guards of the Finnish Regiment and the building of the Vasilyevsky wine town have already been destroyed in the city.
Bastrykin said that he was not satisfied with the work of regional investigators, who do not react in any way to the fact that objects of cultural and historical heritage are being demolished in the city. He ordered to strengthen the investigation team with employees from the Central Office.
As specified, on the site of the historic building “House of E. P. Saltykova” the company LLC “Northern Land Company” rented a land plot and began to carry out dismantling work. At the moment, work has been suspended, and the general director of the company has been questioned. The house is being held in a case of abuse of office (Article 286 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Investigators believe that officials could change the years of construction of historical buildings in the interests of developers.
