“Ban it, and that’s the end of it” – Kommersant FM

The world celebrated Halloween on October 31st. In Russia, this holiday is currently considered inappropriate at the official level. However, the authorities tried to create an alternative to it; in particular, proposals were made to use images of negative heroes of Russian folk tales. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize believes that Halloween has not yet been defeated.

The Russian Federation, despite all its numerous efforts, has not been able to completely overcome the alien, harmful and still unknown kind of Halloween. And this year is no exception: the wrong holiday attracts young and even the youngest citizens, as well as their parents. And what they found in him is unclear.

Meanwhile, in 2023, the authorities tried to take a different route: if it is not possible to ban it, then let’s create an alternative. The most sensational of them is the so-called Pumpkin Salvation, something like worship of this famous agricultural crop, not very tasty, but extremely healthy.

An example is that residents of the Moscow region grew a 400-kilogram pumpkin and crossed the Pavshinskaya floodplain of the Moscow River with it. There are, of course, doubts about the reliability of this information, but be that as it may, there is a second option.

It seems that State Duma deputy Yaroslav Nilov is credited with the authorship of the idea. The people’s representative proposed establishing a Day of Creepy Tales and Stories in Russia. The meaning is this: we have plenty of our own horrors: goblins, witches, Baba Yaga and other characters. You can dress the children in appropriate costumes, and, in essence, it will be the same as Halloween, but ours, dear.

In other words, native Russian horrors are much more terrible than their American vampires and other evil spirits. Here, of course, the main thing is not to overdo it, otherwise you will end up with children who stutter. But overall, there is reason to believe that Mr. Nilov hit the nail on the head.

The day of creepy tales and stories has long arrived and is definitely not going to stop. We are already in it, and it continues non-stop, without interruption.

We, of course, will not look for analogues of Baba Yaga in modern Russian reality; these are not our tasks. But still, we probably need to make it clear that Halloween is not horror, but first and foremost a holiday, a reason to rejoice and have fun, and not to be scared and depressed. According to this logic, it is not worth risking your life by swimming across the river on a pumpkin, if only because the weather today is not conducive to this.

There’s no need to reinvent the wheel. What do we do best? That’s right – ban it, and that’s the end of it. Relevant instructions are being sent. There is no need for initiative, it will only get worse, and as a result you will have to answer, the authorities will hit you in the face. What is this all for?

Of course, it was better to just not notice, close your eyes, so to speak, let them celebrate, this is not a challenge to the foundations. Everything is more fun than creepy fairy tales and stories. Is not it?
