People’s Artist of the USSR, ballerina Svetlana Adyrkhaeva died at the age of 85. This was reported to Interfax at the Bolshoi Theater.
“Today, Svetlana Dzantimirovna passed away at her home after a long illness,” the agency was told.
Svetlana Adyrkhaeva was born in the village of Khumalag in the Pravoberezhny region of North Ossetia. Soloist at the Bolshoi Theater until 1988. She performed the role of Odette-Odile in the ballet Swan Lake.
The artist graduated from the Leningrad Choreographic School (now – the Academy of Russian Ballet named after A. Ya. Vaganova). At the beginning of her career, she worked in the troupe of the Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre.
In the nineties, Svetlana Adyrkhaeva, together with her husband, dancer Alexei Zakalinsky, created the Svetlana Adyrkhaeva Ballet Theater troupe. She taught classical dance at the Academy of Choreography of the New Humanitarian University of Natalia Nesterova.
Since 2001, Svetlana Adyrkhaeva has been a teacher-repetiteur at the Bolshoi Theater. Since 2013, she has been a member of the Artistic Council of the Bolshoi Ballet Company. The name of the ballerina was given to the Vladikavkaz ballet school-studio.
