Azerbaijani woman condemned in Surgut due to ethnic insults

The Surgut City Court (Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug – Yugra) found Raya Mamedova guilty of inciting hatred (paragraph “a” part 2 of article 282 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and sentenced her to three years of probation. Recall, last year the conflict between Rai Mammadova, a native of Azerbaijan, and her neighbors received a wide public outcry. The reason for the quarrel was the remarks that one of the neighbors made to her child and his friends for damaging the elevator. As the woman said after the court session to the Megapolis district channel, she was provoked into such statements. “For almost two weeks I endured and was silent, but in the end it happened like this. I’m not for myself, I’m for the children, stated she, adding that she does not feel harassment in Ugra and does not plan to leave the district.
According to press office of the courtnow Ms. Mammadova will be required to register in a timely manner with a specialized state agency that monitors the behavior of a conditionally convicted person at the place of residence.
