Avtodor will apply experimental markings in the form of chevrons or ticks on eight sections of toll roads, the press service of the state company said. “Drivers, seeing two chevrons in front of them to the car in front, will be sure that they are keeping the necessary distance,” Avtodor explained.
Experimental markings have been approved by the traffic police of Russia. It will be applied on high-speed sections of highways (110 or 130 km / h), including two in the Moscow region on the Central Ring Road, two on the M-11 Neva in the Tver and Leningrad regions and four on the M-4 Don in Lipetsk , Voronezh and Rostov regions. The marking will also be duplicated by yellow information signs with the inscription: “Keep your distance.”
Avtodor explains that it is easy to calculate the safe distance in meters if you divide the permitted speed in half: for example, at a permitted speed of 110 km/h, the safe distance will be 55 meters, for a speed of 130 km/h – 65 meters. If the marking helps to reduce the accident rate, it will be applied in other areas, according to Avtodor. Most of the accidents on the highways of the state-owned company are passing collisions due to the wrong distance chosen by the drivers.
