Residents of many Russian regions have reported aurora in the sky. Scientists attribute this to a powerful magnetic storm.
Residents reported aurora Perm region, Kaliningrad, Novosibirsk regions, Tatarstan, Krasnodar region, Crimea and other regions. The natural phenomenon was also reported in regions of Ukraine.
Institute of Applied Physics reported, that in the second half of the day on November 5, “a disturbance of the geomagnetic field was registered.” Its degree reached the level of G3, which means “strong” on a monitoring scale of five indicators (G5 – extremely strong, G1 – weak). During G3 on Earth, problems may occur in power systems, including false alarms in safety systems and “boiling” of oil transformers. At this level of geomagnetic field disturbance, interruptions in satellite and low-frequency radio navigation are possible, and auroras are possible in mid-latitudes.
