Augmented reality glasses and “smart” rulers: teachers named new types of cheat sheets

A mini-survey “MK”, ​​conducted among students and teachers of several Moscow universities, showed that cheating takes place. But, compared to previous times, there is a large percentage of students who believe that honesty in exams is precisely a matter of honor. “If you rolled up the DWI, it means that you took someone’s place,” says Aslan, a student of journalism at the RUDN University.

And yet people of an adventurous warehouse are not translated. And fertile ground for them, as it turned out, is remote DWI. Such entrance exams have become over the years of covid, but in some places they have taken root. Even at Moscow State University, entrance examinations are taken online.

When such exams were just transferred to a remote format, it was necessary to send photos of ready-made answers to tasks. Some smart people immediately saw through this and made “digital bombs” – scans of ready-made answers to all questions that just had to be connected together and sent.

Now exams are held under the camera in real time. But there are weaknesses here too. Any camera has a blind spot where hints can be placed. In addition, “spurs” and “bombs” (sheets with ready-made answers that must be quietly replaced) are not the only weapons of an unscrupulous applicant now. Microheadphones, additional webcams (and a second monitor located in the blind zone) are used. And even augmented reality glasses. It’s good that all this, especially glasses, is expensive. As practice shows, such a technique with hints is simply impossible to track at a distance. Especially if you write off from it not at random, but practice in advance.

– Inflate the proctor (observing the online exam – Auth.) is not so difficult, – says Leonid, who does not hide the fact that, using such tricks, he passed the DWI to a chemical university. Like, he was very worried, he was afraid to forget the formulas and reaction schemes. – One of the “chips” is a bad camera. If the picture fails and blurs, then it is difficult to trace where you are looking. The regulations say “color webcam”, not a word about the extension.

Leonid also admits that he simply placed the “spurs” on the board at eye level behind the monitor. It’s hard to find fault – “I’m sitting, I think, I rolled my eyes …” Some people put an assistant in the same place, behind the monitor, who shows the necessary pages of a textbook or manual. What is required is absolute silence from the assistant: no rustling, snuffling or coughing. And from the cheater – good eyesight and “acting.”

However, most DWIs are now still held in person. In addition to creative universities, where you have to sing, dance or draw for admission, many strong technical universities arrange such tests. Here, just like in the famous film about Shurik, lovers of cheating and reading show ingenuity. But the professor is also not a burdock, as you know. Even if the equipment is not with him.

– Not so long ago I am sitting at the DWI, – says Ilya Sonin, Associate Professor of the Department of Economics, Candidate of Sciences. “But I’ve already seen a lot. Micro cribs in pens, for example. Or they write on the back of the label on the bottle (you can even bring water to the Unified State Examination, not like to the university). There are still invisible inks that appear in the world with ready-made answers – yes, such “bombs” of a new generation. The earpieces are placed under the hair, it is not visible.

But if a person sits and every now and then touches his hair at the ear, it’s like an earpiece there. Although the good old harmonica spurs are still in use, tips on the palm of your hand, on your knees – this has not gone away.

What betrays any cheater, whether his spurs are advanced or not, is unnatural behavior. Here, as in poker, you can immediately see who is sitting calmly and busy with business, and who is cheating. He fidgets in place, taps his teeth with a pen, looks up with a smart look or deliberately sits straight …

The techniques are always the same, and they are very striking to experienced examiners. A student caught peeping is taken out of the exam and disqualified.

As practice shows, some age teachers in exams are more loyal to “cheaters” than young ones. “The main thing for me is that the person himself is guided in the topic, at the interview it is clear in two minutes,” says physics teacher Albert Ilyich. – And then, what kind of laziness is it to write and draw cheat sheets on all topics?

However, if you are completely lazy, then spurs can be bought ready-made in any format for all subjects, everything is on the Internet.

IT people have their own craftsmen – there are legends about organizers programmed for calculators (the calculator can be used in the exam), smart watches and even LCD rulers. Or devices with the Internet disguised in this way (mini-tablet, smartphone). Allegedly, having once caught an applicant with such an ingenious gadget, the teacher was so delighted that he immediately took the exam. However, there was no confirmation of such rumors.

– And what they really do is write formulas, definitions, rules in hard-to-reach places. In shoes, under the insole, they write, sometimes inside on the shoes themselves, in sneakers, for example, – says Veniamin, a teacher at the Physics and Mathematics Center, a graduate of a master’s program at a top university. – They write between the fingers, hide the spurs under the clothes, the girls are often in the neckline. Or they draw directly on the body, some even order temporary tattoos so that they do not wear off.

Then people ask to use the toilet and write off. It is impossible to fight this, not to conduct personal searches. Of course, the teachers are aware, but they look through their fingers: the person got worried, so the formula or law flew out of his head.

Another thing is if someone left for a long time – here, according to the regulations, you have to go and see if anything happened. Suddenly I felt bad from excitement, this also happens.

But teachers-observers, hidden in advance, find phones, cameras and headphones in toilet cubicles. Especially if some students use the “right to the toilet” repeatedly. And before the exam, corridors, common areas, recreations are passed and checked.

Universities have long known where unscrupulous applicants hide their “eavesdropping equipment” most often. But the places (in fact, these are cisterns, paper holders and flower pots) refused to “burn off”.
