Athletics Week kicks off in Moscow: football stars and figurines run

Russian athletics have taken over Moscow. On Monday, a series of track and field athletics starts “Athletics Week” opened. And Nikolskaya Street for a few hours seemed to have returned to the intoxicating days of the World Cup. Races on a specially constructed platform for serious sprinters and hurdlers, guest stars – from the true subject of the Queen of Sports, the fantastic Sotomayor, to the stellar line-up of champion figure skaters and famous football players who have shown that they can run.
Our athletics really needs attention. Star show is a good way to attract him. Of course, serious problems will not be solved, but even a declaration of love for a sport creates a good mood.
Even before the start, one of the guests-participants, the Olympic champion in the 110-meter hurdles, Cuban Anyer Garcia, admitted: “Creativity is what benefits athletics. I am glad that I can help popularize my favorite sport and support Russian athletes.”
Colleague Garcia Olympic champion Dayron Robles, according to him, just looking forward to a visit to Moscow. The idea of the race on one of the central streets inspired him with the expectation of “flows of energy and exchange of emotions with the audience.”
Both Cubans ran 60 meters with multiple Russian champion in hurdling sprint Konstantin Shabanov and medalist of national championships Philip Shabanov. Brothers – overcoming barriers, and guests – smooth 60 meters. Konstantin nevertheless won the “Dream” race (7.71), Robles became the second, Philip and Garcia – the third and fourth.
And, by the way, our athletes, rejoicing at the “skit” on the track, were engaged in quite a serious matter. Each stage is rating points, and in mid-August – the Final of the series, which will be hosted by Yekaterinburg.

In the women’s 60 meters run, Kristina Makarenko won the expected victory, in the men’s race Yaroslav Tkalich celebrated his birthday with a victory, he also received a cake. In the 60m hurdles, Elvira Graborenko from Belarus won, in men – Sergey Shubenkov.
By the way, Shubenkov admitted that he was afraid to lose. And maybe he wasn’t even lying. He said that it is always important to win. But – unusual 60 meters, not 110, and did not run at such a distance for ten years. And the track is “elastic and very unpredictable.” And only 17 meters corridor for braking. “It was scary.” But – “I had to gather my will into a fist”, and already in the preliminary race I got used to it.
But the figure skaters on Nikolskaya tried with all their might … not to run. Alina Zagitova, Kamila Valieva, Sonya Akatieva and Adelia Petrosyan relaxed over the distance, controlling each other’s movements. We wanted to finish together so that everyone would win. Athletics even in such a race said its royal word: there must be a winner! Akatieva, Valieva, Zagitova, Petrosyan – this is how the photo finish was defined. Adelia received a cake as a gift: she conquered Nikolskaya on her 16th birthday!
Evgeny Aldonin became the best in the football players’ race (then – Dmitry Bulykin, Alexander Filimonov, Ruslan Pimenov). In the race of journalists, Dmitry Guberniev, along with the guitar, was the last to run, in fact, he did not try. In another “away” race, grandmaster Sergey Karyakin overtook Olympic champion and world record holder in the high jump Javier Sotomayor, Olympic champion Alexei Yagudin and weightlifter Mikhail Koklyaev.
After the victory, Karjakin said that he did not manage to understand anything, but he tried to run as fast as possible, and from the shouts of the audience he realized that he was in the lead. “The star company got together, understood that it would be difficult, lulled their guard and won.”

The world record holder is already a unique phenomenon, but the Olympic champion Cuban Javier Sotomayor, who came to Moscow, even stands apart among fellow record holders. In 1993, he took a height of 2.45 m. And no one has jumped higher so far. In 2014, Qatari Mutaz Barshim cleared 2.43. That’s where everything stopped for now. The great Cuban himself jokes that he is ready to endure and be the first for another thirty years.
Javier Sotomayor says that he lives in high jumps, he knows all Russian athletes, of course. As well as the fact that someday his record will still be broken. “If Danil Lysenko does this, I will congratulate him.”
And a few days before the start of the competition, Ilya Ivanyuk became the winner of the championship of the Central Federal District, which was held in Bryansk. It’s usually not customary to look closely at such competitions, but Ilya overcame the bar at around 2.33 meters. And thus repeated the best result of the summer season in the world. Before him, Australian Joel Biden and American Juvon Harrison flew to such a height.
By the way, in parallel with the tournament in Bryansk, the third stage of the Diamond League athletics series was held in Rome. And Harrison won with a score of 2.32.
Ilya Ivanyuk said that he asked to set the bar at a height of 2.33 just to test his strength, but he overcame it on the first try, “it turned out quite easily.” I also tried to jump 3 cm higher, but I got tired. But then there would be some competition…
