Athletes from Sakhalin won 16 medals at all-Russian taekwondo competitions

The All-Russian taekwondo competition “Amber Cup” was held in Svetlogorsk from September 16 to 18. More than 200 athletes took to the tatami of the Svetlogorsky sports and recreation complex this year. The national team of the Sakhalin region was represented by taekwondo players of the island taekwondo association, representing Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Korsakov and Nevelsk. The Sakhalin team's coaches in this tournament were Vitaly Chan, Sergey Li, German Tsoi and Vladimir Tulupov, the press service of the regional Ministry of Sports reported.

At these competitions, Sakhalin residents received 11 gold, two silver and three bronze medals.

The gold medalists were Oleg Badalyan, Ekaterina Timoshenko, Maxim Lee, Timofey Thagapsov, Polina Sapunova, Dmitry Kim from Korsakov, as well as Albert Chan, Artyom Kim, Kristina Kogai, Victoria Belyaeva and Alina Tsoi from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.

From the island capital, taekwondoists Evgeniy Kravchenko and Milyana Babenko took second place in their weight categories. Bronze medals of the Amber Cup went to Chan Su Lee and Vladislav Sin from Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, as well as Ekaterina Timoshenko from Korsakov. By the way, Ekaterina took first place among juniors (up to 55 kg) and also won bronze in the “Women” category (up to 57 kg).

Albert Chan was awarded for the best technique, winning all fights with a clear advantage. He trains under the guidance of Honored Trainer of Russia Denis Kim.
