Two teams of scientists from the California Institute of Technology and the Goddard Space Flight Center have concluded that there is carbon dioxide or organic molecules in the subglacial ocean on Jupiter’s moon Europa.
Astrophysicists have concluded that in the area of Europe, where water from the subglacial ocean supposedly periodically reaches the surface, the concentration of carbon dioxide is higher than in other places. On this basis, they hypothesized that either carbon dioxide itself or organic molecules from which it appears under the influence of ultraviolet and cosmic rays reach the surface along with water.
Europa is considered one of the few potentially habitable space objects in the solar system beyond Earth.
