Astrakhan “Volgar” lost to “Akhmat” at home

In the quarterfinals of the Russian Cup, Volgar played against Akhmat from Grozny. This match was the first meeting between the Astrakhan club and a team from the Premier League in the last five years.

Right from the start of the game, the team from Astrakhan actively attacked and put pressure on the opponent. Sergei Pavlov’s team actively used the flanks and created pressure.

However, Akhmat scored the first goal. Kovachev shot through three opponents, the ball bounced to Oleynikov, who accurately sent it into the far corner of the goal.

Five minutes later, Volgar Tkachuk made a free kick, but Krotov’s shot went just over the crossbar. In the 38th minute, Poluboyarinov tried to shoot from the penalty line, but his shot was blocked by an opponent, after which the ball bounced to Tkachuk, who headed it close to the post.

The second half also began with Volgar dominating, although they failed to create any sharp scoring chances. In the 58th minute, Akhmat doubled its lead. Lovat shot from behind the goal, Smirnov parried the shot, but Vladimir Ilyin was the first to finish, the Volgar club reported.

In the 71st minute, the players from Grozny took a corner kick, and Timofeev hit the near corner, but Smirnov jumped to save his goal. Two minutes later the Astrakhan team scored a goal. Shlyakov made a throw-in, Obivalin played on Zhamaletdinov, who scored the ball into the goal.

In the 87th minute, Danila Smirnov tried to shoot low from the penalty area, but the ball flew close to the bar. And in the 95th minute, Zhamaletdinov tried to score through himself from the left flank, but the ball was picked up by Gilyazetdinov, who shot from the left, but Oparin parried his shot.

“Volgar” finished its performance in the Russian Cup. The Astrakhan club will play its next match in Tula on March 18.
