Armenia asks the European Union to provide assistance to refugees who arrive in the republic from Nagorno-Karabakh, writes Reuters, citing the Office of the Prime Minister of Italy.
Yerevan, as noted in the prime minister’s statement, has addressed the EU on the issue of providing temporary shelter and medicines to displaced people. Rome is working to promote stabilization in the region, the office noted.
According to the latest data, to Armenia from Nagorno-Karabakh arrived more than 100,000 people, and the Armenian government has already allocated temporary housing to 32,200 displaced people.
On September 28, the president of the unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree on the termination of its existence from 2024 and the dissolution of all state institutions and organizations. The republic existed for 32 years. This happened after Azerbaijani troops took control of the territory of Karabakh. The Karabakh authorities surrendered the day after the start of “anti-terrorist measures” by Baku.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that he is confident in the successful process of reintegration of the Armenian population of Karabakh. On September 29 he promised ensure the security and protection of the rights of the population of the republic. According to him, the reintegration plan covers respect for religious, educational, cultural, municipal and all other rights of residents of the region, which are reflected in international conventions.
