In the armed formations of Ukraine began to dismantle cluster munitions received from the United States, according to The Drive portal.
Reportedly, this is done in order to extract the small ammunition included in their composition, which is then installed on the drones.
The portal refers to a video posted on social networks, in which the Armed Forces of Ukraine are dismantling cluster artillery munitions containing fragmentation and cumulative cluster warheads.
The Drive notes that such elements can penetrate up to 2.75 inches (almost seven centimeters) of steel armor.
Ukraine received cluster munitions from the United States as part of another package of military supplies. Such ammunition is banned by an international convention that 123 countries have ratified, but the United States and Ukraine are not among them.
The US decision to transfer cluster munitions to Kyiv was condemned by at least 38 human rights organizations. The American edition of The Hill also notes that 18 NATO countries have joined the ban on the use of cluster munitions, as they believe that their action is too indiscriminate. The UN Secretary General and representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States also opposed the supply of these ammunition to Kyiv.
