High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell, in an article on his blog on the EU website, expressed the opinion that the 11 packages of anti-Russian sanctions imposed by Brussels are working. The EU imposed 11 packages of “increasingly tough sanctions against Russia” after February 24, 2022, he said: “Over the course of the year, they have already significantly limited Moscow’s options, causing financial tension, cutting off the country from key markets and significantly worsening industrial and technological potential Russia”. To stop the conflict, Borrell said, we “need to stay” on this course.
According to the director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies Ruslan Pukhov, some countries cannot adapt to Western sanctions, and some are able to do this, despite all the costs. The former include Yugoslavia and Serbia from 1994 to 2003, and the latter include Iran from 1980 to the present. Russia in terms of its resources is clearly closer to Iran than to Serbia, the expert concludes.
