Arkhangelsk “Vodnik” started the pre-season tournament with a confident victory

On October 26, two years later in Ulyanovsk, Vodnik again entered the fight for the Volga-Sport-Arena Cup. His first opponent was Rodina from Kirov. This was reported by the press service of the Arkhangelsk squad.

For both clubs, participation in this tournament is a dress rehearsal before the start of the national championship, which is less than two weeks away. Before the head-to-head match, the Kirov team trained on the big ice for almost a week. The yellow-greens, in turn, were able to hold only one training session. It is worth adding to this that a quarter of the Arkhangelsk team took part in the International Tournament for the prizes of the Governor of the Ulyanovsk Region. Therefore, it took time to bring all the players to the same denominator. All of the above largely left its mark on the actions of the northerners at the very beginning of the match.

From the first minutes of this meeting, the “vodniki” took possession of the game and territorial advantage, but for a very long time they were unable to translate it into scored goals. Ilya Nasekin, Vladislav Kutuzov and Mikhail Shirshov missed their chances to hit the opponent’s goal one after another. The Kirov team could not boast of such extravagance; they took advantage of the only chance in the entire first half and were able to open the scoring in this match. However, Mikhail Sergeev quickly restored the previous balance – 1:1. This development of events only angered the residents of Arkhangelsk, and first of all captain Evgeniy Dergaev, who was unstoppable that day. In twelve minutes, he forced the opponents to start the game from the center of the field four times, and virtually eliminated all questions about the winner – 5:1. In the remaining time, the northerners not only calmly brought this meeting to a confident victory – 11:2, but were also able to work out several tactical schemes. Vodnik had a penta-trick scored by Evgeny Dergaev, a hat-trick by Mikhail Sergeev, and Danil Kuzmin, Arseny Kozlov and Evgeny Gromnitsky also scored once each.

– The match turned out to be very good. We had a good attitude and a similar movement. Our defenders won a lot of rebounds, and it was thanks to this that we were able to launch quick counterattacks,” Vodnik head coach Ivan Maksimov noted after the match.

Vodnik will play its next match on October 28, when it will meet with Volga Ulyanovsk. Starts at 14:00 Moscow time.
