AP: Two Americans arrested for selling technology to Russia

US Department of Justice arrested two residents of Kansas on suspicion of illegally exporting aviation technology to Russia.
Investigators allege that Cyril Gregory Buyanovsky and Douglas Robertson, through their company KanRus, supplied aviation electronics to Russian companies and repaired equipment used in Russian-made aircraft.
The indictment says they conspired in 2020 to evade U.S. export laws by hiding and misrepresenting the true end users and destinations of their exports. They sent equipment through third countries.
If the partners are found guilty, the men face up to 35 years in prison.
Matthew Axelrod, assistant secretary for export control at the Bureau of Industry and Security at the US Department of Commerce, said Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are trying to take advantage of US advances in technology. He added that sensitive technology being sent to these countries is “top of our list in terms of enforcement.”
