Russian President Vladimir Putin called for everything to be done so that the basis of the economy was not imported goods, but domestic ones. According to him, Russian companies are ready to compete with foreign ones, and any dominance is not eternal. He stated this at the plenary session of the Strong Ideas for the New Times forum.

“For a long time, large foreign companies were essentially crowding out our domestic products. And not always due to quality and price, but due to aggressive advertising. And, of course, by subsidizing those goods that they produced at home,” Mr. Putin said (quoted by RIA Novosti).

The President said that in Russia it is necessary to set high standards of social support, beautification of cities and towns, and form a supply-side economy. According to him, these goals should be achieved through proposals put forward by citizens and various associations. “In other words, an economy that does not live by consuming someone else’s, imported, but creates itself, produces modern goods, services, technologies,” he said.

Vladimir Putin pointed to the “excellent characteristics” of the products of Russian companies, which “often are in no way inferior to their foreign counterparts, and sometimes even surpass them.” “And I am sure it will be so, and this is superiority in this sense – not to copy, but to go one step ahead,” the head of state said. At the same time, he clarified that in some cases “little is known” about high-quality domestic goods.
