Menyailo spoke about the increase in the transit of goods through North Ossetia to Georgia

Transit to Georgia through North Ossetia increases annually. This was told to Vedomosti by the head of the republic, Sergei Menyailo.

“The volume of cargo transportation is increasing from year to year. Accordingly, the number of cars increases. <…> We missed 2300 cars per day. <…> I understand that there are no diplomatic relations. But on our part, there are no obstacles for travel to Georgia, both transit transport and passenger transport,” he explained.

According to Menyailo, the Upper Lars checkpoint is working normally. The mode of electronic queues, 39 lanes and intercepting parking for 500 cars made it possible to get rid of cars on the roadsides. “There are no problems with the registration of transit-border transport,” Menyailo emphasized.

Earlier, the acting head of the Federal Customs Service, Ruslan Davydov, noted that after the reconstruction of the lanes, traffic jams should be eliminated, and the throughput of the checkpoint would reach 1,500 trucks per day. During a visit to the republic in June, Davydov said that trade through Upper Lars increased more than 20%.

On May 10, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the resumption of air traffic between Russia and Georgia, which was terminated in the summer of 2019. In addition, by a separate decree, from May 15, he canceled the visa regime for Georgian citizens.
