Anti-obesity drug tops Science’s breakthrough ranking of the year

The journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Science, has published a ranking of breakthroughs in 2023.
The first line of the list was taken by a drug based on glucagon-like peptide-1, which is designed to fight obesity. As experts noted, the drug leads to significant weight loss with manageable side effects.
“A new class of drugs mimics the gut-produced hormone glucagon-like peptide-1… A 2023 clinical trial showed it also reduced symptoms of heart failure and the risk of heart attacks and strokes,” the article says.
