State of emergency introduced in Kurgan region
In the Kurgan region, a regional emergency situation was introduced due to floods. Kurgan Governor Vadim Shumkov spoke about this on Monday, April 8.
The politician warned that the first water will arrive in the Zverinogolovsky district tonight. Then Kurgan and the Belozersky district will be at risk of flooding.
Due to the difficult situation, a decision was made to transfer all schools in Kurgan to a remote mode of operation from April 9. It is planned to temporarily use school buildings for the construction of temporary accommodation centers for region residents evacuated from flood zones.
Earlier, the governor of the Kurgan region, Vadim Shumkov, warned that the water level in the Tobol River could rise to at least 11 meters and would be much higher than during the 1994 flood. Residents of the region are strongly advised to evacuate without waiting for the water level to rise critically.
Russian President Vladimir Putin monitors the flood situation in the regions of the country – the Minister of Emergency Situations and regional leaders regularly submit reports to him. However, as the press secretary of the Russian leader said, Putin will personally visit the regions suffering from the disaster no plans yet.
