Another group of rescuers began climbing the Klyuchevskoy volcano in Kamchatka, where died eight tourists. The first group of rescuers, who arrived in the morning, also continues to climb – they have already managed to reach the mark of 2000 m, the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations reported.
The second group of rescuers must reach the mark of 3300 m, to the house of volcanologists. The group consists of ten people: four from the Kamchatka Rescue Center, five more from the search and rescue team of the regional department of the Russian Emergencies Ministry. “Depending on weather conditions, the ascent will take at least two days,” the department added (TASS quote).
On August 30, a group of ten tourists and two guides went hiking, on September 3, nine people began climbing the volcano. The three remaining in the camp and one survivor are waiting for the help of rescuers. TASS, citing a source in emergency services, said that now they are at different heights: two at 4100 m and two at 3300 m. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence to two or more persons). The prosecutor’s office is checking the Novosibirsk travel agency “Extreme Time”, which sent tourists on this ascent.
Helicopter Mi-8 EMERCOM of Russia landed on Klyuchevskaya Sopka earlier today, September 5th. Rescuers were taken to the volcano on the fourth attempt – before they could not do this because of the strong wind and ash that rises from the slopes of the volcano. It is expected that by 24:00 local time (15:00 Moscow time) they will reach the mark of 3300 m.
