The description of all preventive mammograms under compulsory medical insurance in the capital last year was carried out using AI. This helped increase the speed of obtaining results by 8 times, and the total number of studies exceeded 350 thousand.
“Mammography is an effective way to detect breast cancer at an early stage. For a year now in Moscow, doctors have been analyzing all preventive mammography examinations of patients using artificial intelligence as part of compulsory health insurance. In 2023, smart algorithms processed more than 350 thousand images from city medical institutions,” said Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Social Development Anastasia Rakova.
She added that neural networks today have great potential to improve the efficiency of screening programs. According to metropolitan scientists, smart algorithms speed up the double description of mammograms – with the help of AI and a radiologist – by more than eight times.
According to the chief radiologist of Moscow, director of the Center for Diagnostics and Telemedicine of the Moscow Health Department, Yuri Vasiliev, not only radiologists, but also AI play an important role in diagnosing breast diseases. The use of new technologies has reduced the burden on doctors, and patients receive reports faster. In addition, AI insures the doctor against possible omissions of pathologies. The use of technology in the field of medical diagnostics opens new horizons in providing access to quality care.
